Numerical analysis of the Caughley model from ecology∗,†

چکیده
This paper deals with numerical analysis of a reaction diffusion model from mathematical ecology posed in an unbounded spatial domain. For numerical simulations we replace the original system with an equivalent one posed in a bounded domain. This is done by means of an algebraic map in conjunction with a spectral method. For the semidiscretization in time we use an exponential time differencing scheme, the resulting scheme is explicit both in space and time. Improved error estimates are derived and the computational efficiency of the algorithm is considered. Finally, we present several numerical simulations which are useful for making pertinent biological deductions. AMS subject classifications: 65M70, 65M15, 92D40

Testing the irruptive paradigm of large-herbivore dynamics.
A dominant paradigm in understanding and managing large herbivores is that, after introduction to new range or release from harvesting, the herbivore population increases to peak abundance, crashes to a lower abundance, and then increases to a carrying capacity lower than peak abundance. However, support for the paradigm has been largely anecdotal. We first developed two mathematical models to ...
متن کاملUsing the Component Model of Sustainable Landscape for the Quality Assessment of Urban Natural Public Spaces: A Case Study from Tehran’s River-valleys
Ecological destruction in human-dominated landscapes has significant impacts on environment sustainability internationally. Landscape planning can play a role in mitigating the effects of human-related activities. One element of landscape planning involves the analysis of the biological, spatial and social arrangement of areas in an urban environment and identifying characteristics that are und...
متن کاملHydrodynamic Modelling of Coral Reefs:Ningaloo Reef-Western Australia
As with all coral reef systems, the ecology of Ningaloo Reef is closely linked to water circulation which transport and disperse key material such as nutrients and larvae. Circulation on coral reefs may be driven by a number of forcing mechanisms including waves, tides, wind, and buoyancy effects. Surface waves interacting with reefs have long been known to dominate the currents on many coral r...

The Volterra delay integral equations have numerous applications in various branches of science, including biology, ecology, physics and modeling of engineering and natural sciences. In many cases, it is difficult to obtain analytical solutions of these equations. So, numerical methods as an efficient approximation method for solving Volterra delay integral equations are of interest to many res...
متن کاملThe Numerical Exergy Analysis of H2/Air Combustion with Detailed Chemical Kinetic Simulation Model
Energy and exergy concepts come from thermodynamics laws and are applicable to all fields of science and engineering. This study considers numerical simulations of combustion of hydrogen with air in a constant pressure environment and exergy terms according to first and second laws analysis using homemade code. Chemical kinetic model includes 20 reactions and 9 species. At the first stage of p...
